Tension escalates in Nsukka as armed herdsmen terrorists wreak havoc on communities

The security crisis engulfing Nsukka land in Enugu State has worsened drastically, leaving local communities devastated, fearful, and helpless.

Reports from residents indicate that heavily armed Fulani herdsmen, described by many as terrorists, have been carrying out coordinated attacks in various villages across the zone.

These attackers, often equipped with military-grade firearms such as AK-47 and AK-49 rifles, have outmatched villagers who are left with no means of effective defense.

Local sources confirm to Diaspora digital media (DDM) that the assailants have not only destroyed homes and farmland but have also murdered scores of innocent civilians, mostly farmers and vulnerable women and children.

DDM also learned that over the past month, communities such as Eha-Amufu, Aku, and Adani have recorded more than 30 confirmed killings, with many victims ambushed on their way to farms or while fleeing at night.

Some bodies were discovered mutilated, with evidence of torture before death, creating deep psychological trauma among survivors.

In a particularly harrowing incident in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area, gunmen believed to be Fulani terrorists ambushed a group of local farmers, killing eight and injuring several others.

Farms were razed, properties destroyed, and those who escaped were forced to abandon their homes and seek refuge in nearby towns.

Comrade Nnaedozie Victor, a vocal activist and community mobilizer, has condemned the attacks and called for urgent federal intervention.

He expressed deep frustration over the lack of response from the Enugu State Government and the slow reaction of national security agencies.

He stressed how both the local, State and federal government, including the Council chairman, house of rep member representing the Constituency has paid def ear to this menace.

According to him, he made seven calls in one day to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, detailing the unfolding security breakdown in the zone.

He promised to continue calling every day and to accompany each call with a text report outlining the specific incidents of violence and killings.

Victor urged the youth of Nsukka to follow suit, encouraging them to place sustained civic pressure on security officials by sending messages and making at least one hundred missed calls to the IGP daily.

“We must act. Our senatorial zone is under siege,” Victor declared. “Silence will only worsen this tragedy.”

The failure of the state government to make meaningful interventions has, according to many residents, forced communities into despair.

Villagers say they feel abandoned and are calling for direct involvement from the federal government, military, and international human rights organizations.

The Proudly Nsukka platform, which Victor represents, is now mobilizing residents and the diaspora to amplify their voices and demand action.

Victor also shared the contact of the Inspector-General of Police to facilitate the mass outreach:

Contact: IGP Kayode Egbetokun – Phone: +234 802 290 8922

He warned that the current state of passive outrage must give way to coordinated civic action and advocacy.

“Do not assume you are safe because you haven’t been attacked yet,” he said. “The terror is spreading fast, and unless we act together, the entire zone may fall into silence and ruin.”

He emphasized that now is not the time for complacency, but a time to defend lives through lawful and strategic pressure.

The situation in Nsukka is dire, and the cries of its people are growing louder by the day.
