The Anambra State chapter of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) held a crucial evening meeting on Monday, bringing together all 21 Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen in the state for strategic planning and internal coordination.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the high-level meeting, which took place in Awka, the state capital, marked a significant step in strengthening grassroots mobilization and expanding the coalition’s democratic engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The gathering, which was convened under a tense political atmosphere, reflected COPDEM’s commitment to building a formidable civic resistance to perceived threats against Nigeria’s democratic framework. The coalition, known for its bold advocacy and people-centered ideology, is mobilizing across states to ensure Nigerians reclaim their democratic space from political manipulation and tyranny.
During the closed-door session, key issues were discussed, including the activation of ward-level structures, volunteer recruitment, communication strategies, and deepened voter education in all LGAs. The LGA Chairmen also used the opportunity to share feedback from their respective areas and proposed new measures to consolidate the grassroots movement.
Speaking anonymously after the meeting, one LGA chairman described the engagement as “the most important gathering since COPDEM entered Anambra,” adding that “the time has come to amplify the people’s voice and dismantle the silence imposed by corrupt politics.”
Another source hinted that COPDEM is preparing for a series of local town hall meetings and media campaigns across the 21 local councils, aimed at reawakening political consciousness and restoring trust in electoral participation.
The Anambra COPDEM leadership also reiterated their solidarity with national convener and expressed readiness to align with national actions that seek to expose electoral injustice and demand good governance.
With this renewed coordination, COPDEM Anambra is positioning itself as a key force in the growing coalition of democratic defenders calling for credible elections, accountable leadership, and a government truly rooted in the will of the people.
As 2027 approaches, the coalition’s resolve appears stronger than ever. The evening meeting has not only ignited a fire of hope among local coordinators but also sent a clear message to political actors: the people are organizing.
