THE IGP’s UNCONSTITUTIONAL & HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION OF THE ELOMBAHS

The South- East /South- South (SESS) Network (SESSNET) has described the continuous detention of Tim Elombah and the restrictions placed on the movements of Daniel Elombah as violation of the Nigerian Constitution. 

The group in a statement issued wondered how the Police could continue to detain Tim Elombah without concrete evidence against him and in violation of his fundamental Human Rights. 

The group added that the charged sheet which was obtained showed that the offensive story was an opinion article titled “ IGP Ibrahim Idris’s Unending Baggage of Controversies” written by a certain Eboiwei Dickson, a person unknown to the Elombahs and published on another website – Opinion Nigeria – which the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris had found offensive.

The group therefore called for the immediate release of Tim Elombah and for the IGP to tender a public apology for the violation of the Human Rights of the Elombah family. 

The statement reads, ” SESS network demands for the immediate release of Tim Elombah who was arrested for an Opinion article titled “ IGP Ibrahim Idris’s Unending Baggage of Controversies” written by Eboiwei Dickson, and was published on another website – Opinion Nigeria – which the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris found offensive.

” we are amazed that the police could arrest and detain Tim Elombah for a newstory that was not written nor published by him and also restricting the movement of the United Kingdom(UK) based publisher of Elombah.com, Daniel Elombah. 

” The continuous detention of Tim Elombah by Nigerian Police Force is in no small measure, a gross violation of his Human Rights which is enshrined in the  constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We at SESSnet unequivocally call on the Inspector General of Police to immediately release to his family, Tim Elombah and remove all travel restrictions on Daniel Elombah.
