With the following statement from SP Bukola Saraki, the Senate commences the business of the new legislative week on Tuesday, the 13th of October, 2016.

Senator Ben Uwajumogu moves for the approval of Votes and Proceedings of Tuesday 13th October, 2016. Senator Isaac Alfa seconds.

DSP Ike Ekweremadu makes announcements to his Colleagues and welcome students present in the Senate Gallery.

Senate Leader Ali Ndume raises a Point of Order on the release of 21 Chibok Girls by Insurgents.

Senators Biodun Olujimi and Garba Binta also speak as mothers on the joy elicited by the return of the 21 Chibok Girls.

They also comment on how things would have been for them in captivity and the need for total rehabilitation of the released Chibok Girls.

Senator Monsurat also welcomes the development and expresses joy on the release of the 21 Chibok Girls

DSP Ekweremadu appreciates everyone instrumental in keeping the matter on a front burner asking that the efforts be sustained to ensure that the remaining Chibok Girls in captivity are released and rescued soonest.

Senate moves to the confirmation of nomination of Commissioners for the National Population Commission.

Senate refers the nomination of commissioners for the National Population Commission to Its National Population Committee for further action.

Senate also moves to the confirmation of nomination as commissioners of INEC Nigeria from Anambra, Delta, Oyo, Niger, Gombe and Zamfara.

The confirmation of nomination as INEC Nigeria Commissioners is referred to the INEC Committee for further legislative action.

Senate now moves to the consideration of report of its Legal Matters Committee on the appointment of Justices of the Supreme Court.

Senate Leader Ndume and Senator Joshua Lidani speak on the impeccable resume & personalities of the two nominees from Benue & Kebbi States.

The nominees are Hon. Justice Ejembi Eko JCA ( (North Central – Benue) and Hon. Justice Amina Augie (North West- Kebbi).

The first motion is a call for the Federal Govt. to expedite action on the planned 2018 National Census.

Senator Enoh speaks on the poor attitude to Statistics while charging Govt to make adequate provisions for the 2018 Census from 2017.

Senators Umaru Kurfi and Emmanuel Bwacha speak on the importance of A National Census and urge that adequate preparation be made.

Senator Jibrin Barau speak in the important need for data and that the necessary Senate Committee be charged to reach out to the executive arm.

Senate resolves to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to issue a proclamation for the holding of a Population and Housing Census in 2018.

Senate also resolves to call on the OSGF, NPC, and Ministry of Budget Planning to make provisions for the National Census in the 2017 Budget.

Senate Leader informs that Senators are going on Oversight Functions and moves that Senate stand down remaining items on the Order Paper.

Senate Leader also states that the #MTEF and #FSP will be debated on Wednesday and/or Thursday.
