It's a new Legislative day in the Senate. Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu took the official prayer, led the chamber into today's proceedings.

It’s a new Legislative day in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu [above] took the official prayer and led the chamber into today’s proceedings.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu moved for the approval of Votes and Proceedings of Wednesday 12th July, 2017. Senator Shuaibu Lau seconded.

ANNOUNCEMENT

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu made announcements and welcomed staff and students who were present in the gallery to observe Plenary.

PETITIONS

Senator Omo Agege and Senator Nelson Effiong raised Petitions regarding their constituent members.

Senator Jibrin Barau raised a petition from a friend against Enugu Distribution company.

Senator Mao Ohuabunwa raised a petition from a constituent member against the Nigerian Navy.

Senator Bassey Akpan raised a Petition from his constituent member against the Nigerian Police Force for unlawful dismissal.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu referred all petitions to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to report back in 2 weeks.

POINT OF ORDER

Senator Sam Anyanwu cited order 43 and spoke about the demise of HRH Senator Dr Obinna Obasi from Imo State.

Senate observed a minute silence in honour of HRH Senator Dr Obinna Obasi.

Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu sent his heartfelt condolence to the family of HRH Senator Dr Obinna Obasi and People of Imo State, a former colleague who become a traditional ruler.

Senator Bassey Akpan cited order 43 on a publication where the Kogi State Governor questions the support for Senator Dino Melaye by the Akwa Ibom state Governor. 

Senator Akpan condemned the reply of the Kogi State Governor for questioning his Governor’s support for a friend.

Deputy Senate President stated that the Kogi State Government should stop escalating their local politics and concentrate on good governance.
