There is more than enough land in the North to accommodate Herdsmen & their cattle ~ Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District under the platform of the All Progressive Congress has said there is more than enough land in the North to accommodate the legitimate and genuine Herdsmen and their cattle.

The Kaduna born rights activist said the North region of Nigeria occupies almost 70% of the land mass in the country and the six Northern states in the North East and North West should earmark lands for modern grazing reserves that should be linked to related industries.

 

Sani further said cattle business is a huge business that can generate wealth and create employment opportunities and the North should be thinking of how to export hide and skin, Milk and Cheese to Europe, American and Asia.

Senator Shehu said, “The Northern Part of Nigeria occupies almost seventy percent of the land mass of this country. In the 21st century, the cattle Bussiness is a big Bussiness that can generate wealth and provide employment opportunities.

“We should be thinking of how we can export hide and skin, Milk and Cheese to Europe, the American continent and Asia.

“Six Northern states in the North East and North West should earmark lands for modern grazing reserves that should be linked to related industries. There is more than enough land in the North to accommodate the legitimate and genuine Herdsmen and their cattle.

“Will you not be more proud to see canned meat, bottled Milk, Butter and Cheese from Northern Nigeria in the supermarket chains in Paris, Tokyo, New York, Riyadh, London or Beijing?

“The North is blessed, it only needs to harness its blessings. Herdsmen roving and trespassing into farms and ancestral lands of people whether in the North or South west will continue to be a source of conflicts and violence. We were 45 million in 1960 and now we are 206 million on thesame land mass.The space is shrinking..”

However, Shehu Sani’s advise is coming after the security crisis that almost engulfed Oyo and Ondo State because of the eviction notice to Fulani herdsmen accused of kidnapping and destruction of farmlands in the region.
