(DDM) – Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has alleged that the Federal Government secretly moved the detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to a correctional facility in Sokoto State.
Sowore’s claims, obtained by Diaspora Digital Media DDM, have intensified concerns about Kanu’s safety following Thursday’s controversial sentencing.
The activist insisted that the transfer was planned long before the judgment that sent shockwaves across the country.
He alleged that the motive behind the move was to place Kanu in a location where his security could not be guaranteed.
Sowore said the decision was influenced by fears that Kanu would receive overwhelming support if kept in Abuja.
According to him, government officials privately argued that Kuje Correctional Centre would turn into a destination for mass pilgrimage.
He said authorities believed that supporters from across the country, especially Igbo communities, would regularly converge at Kuje to demonstrate solidarity.
Sowore noted that such gatherings were considered undesirable by security agencies who feared the political symbolism it would create.
He claimed this fear prompted the government to choose a remote northern prison to isolate the detained IPOB leader.
The activist alleged that the move was designed to weaken Kanu’s morale and limit his access to visitors.
He further claimed that psychological operations were deployed to convince the public that Kanu might soon benefit from renewed hope.
Sowore said such narratives were “tactical distractions” engineered to keep supporters hopeful while a harsher agenda unfolded.
He argued that the authorities have no intention of releasing Kanu despite public appeals and growing international attention.
He insisted that political considerations would not influence any future decision regarding Kanu’s freedom.
The activist also blamed politicians from the South-East for contributing to Kanu’s continued detention.
He accused unnamed leaders from the region of seeing Kanu as a direct threat to their political survival.
According to him, these political figures fear Kanu’s influence among the people and prefer him silenced.
Sowore referenced attempts to undermine the #FreeNnamdiKanuNOW protest as evidence of internal sabotage.
He said forces opposed to the campaign worked tirelessly to frustrate every mobilization effort.
The activist warned that recent developments should not be ignored by supporters of the IPOB leader.
He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and not be deceived by what he described as carefully crafted political messaging.
Sowore insisted that the Federal Government’s strategy is to keep public expectations alive long enough for Kanu to remain permanently incapacitated in detention.
He maintained that the alleged transfer to Sokoto represents a dangerous escalation in the handling of the long-running case.
The activist concluded by reminding Nigerians that he had repeatedly warned about the intentions of those in power.
He said the current situation reflects deeper political fears surrounding Kanu’s influence and the movement he represents.
He emphasized that his message is intended to alert the public to what he described as a calculated and perilous agenda.
