Thierry Henry resigns as France Under-21 coach

Thierry Henry has resigned as the coach of France’s Under-21 team after leading the squad to an Olympic silver medal in Paris earlier this month.
The 47-year-old, who was under contract until next summer, decided to step down after just one year in the role.
Henry considers winning the silver medal at the Olympic Games for his country one of the greatest achievements of his life.
He is deeply thankful to the federation, the players, the staff, and the supporters who made the experience possible.
Before taking on the France Under-21 position, Henry served as an assistant coach for Belgium and held managerial roles at Monaco and Major League Soccer’s Montreal Impact.
Henry as a player
With a career spanning over two decades, Henry established himself as one of the greatest strikers in football history.
He began his professional journey at AS Monaco, before moving to Juventus and eventually finding his home at Arsenal in 1999.
During his eight-year tenure at Arsenal, Henry won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and was named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year twice.
His impressive goal-scoring record and mesmerizing skill on the pitch earned him the nickname “Va Va Voom.”
Henry’s success extended beyond club football, as he played a pivotal role in France’s international triumphs.
He was a key player in France’s 1998 FIFA World Cup victory, scoring three goals in the tournament.
Two years later, Henry helped France win the UEFA European Championship, scoring the golden goal in the semifinals. He also represented France at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where they finished as runners-up.
With 228 goals in 674 games, Henry retired as France’s all-time leading scorer and Arsenal’s record goal-scorer.
His playing career was a masterclass in consistency, skill, and sportsmanship, cementing his status as a football legend.
Henry as a coach
Henry’s coaching odyssey began in 2015, managing Arsenal’s youth teams.
He then transitioned to an assistant coach role for Belgium’s national team, gaining invaluable experience in international football management.
In 2018, he took the helm as Monaco’s head coach, introducing an attacking style and mentoring young talents.
Following a brief stint at Monaco, Henry joined Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer (MLS) as head coach in 2019.
He implemented an attractive, possession-based style, emphasizing player development and teamwork.
His commitment to youth development and innovative tactics earned praise from the football community.
In 2021, Henry returned to international football, managing France’s Under-21 team.
However, he recently resigned from this position, marking the end of a chapter in his coaching career.
