The city of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Nigeria, was agog on Sunday for Chief Tony C. Okocha, the Rivers State Representative on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and wife, Lady Ogechi Okocha.

It was a three-in-one thanksgiving service to celebrate Chief Tony Okocha’s appointment as member representing Rivers State in the Governing Board of the NDDC, his appointment as Chairman, State Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and his wife, Lady Ogechi Okocha’s birthday.

The service, held at The Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Rumuapara District, Rivers State, was a mixed grill of solemnity and vivacity as rendition of solemn hymns and exhortation later gave way for effusive praises, worship and thanksgiving speeches by the celebrants and quests.

The service was presided over by Rt. Revd Wisdom Budu Ihunwo.

Anchoring his sermon on Romans 9:16 which reads, “it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy”, the cleric enjoined all to be grateful to God for always offering grace and mercy upon mankind.

The cleric appreciated the Chief Tony Okocha family for recognizing the importance of thanksgiving, and prayed for their protection and uplift.

The creme-de-la-creme of the Nigerian society turned up in good numbers.

Akwa Ibom State Representative in the NDDC Governing Board, Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono, joined the Chairman of the NDDC Governing Board, Chief Chiedu Ebie; NDDC Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku; other State Reps, directors and senior staff of the Commission, to grace the event.
