A devastating and shocking incident has occurred in Nnewichi, Nnewi, Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria, where three siblings, aged 5, 7, and 9, were found dead and stored in a deep freezer.

The siblings, Ejezie Chikaima Daviana, Ejezie Chimziterem Dominica, and master Ejezie Chimdilim David, were discovered by their mother, Mrs. Chikazor Ejezie, a lecturer and nurse, after she returned from an examination.

According to eyewitnesses, the mother had left the children in the house, which was later found open, contrary to the usual practice of the children locking the door whenever they went out.

A search party was formed, and after an extensive search, the deep freezer was opened, revealing the lifeless bodies of the three siblings.

The father of the victims, Mr. Ejezie Udobi, who was away in Irrua, Edo State, recounted the incident to newsmen.

“My wife told me that after searching for the kids by herself and a search party, without success, in despair, the deep freezer was opened, and behold, the dead bodies of the kids were there.”

Mr. Udobi expressed his devastation, stating, “My three kids killed at the same time by yet-to-be-identified assailants. The corpses of the kids have been deposited at a morgue, and the police, CPS Nnewi, is where we reported the matter, and the police are investigating.”

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nnaghe Itam, ordering a full investigation.

The police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated, “The bodies have been recovered, and the CP has transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for thorough investigation.”

Worsening insecurity in Anambra

The incident may be linked to the recent surge in insecurity in the state.

The State has experienced a rise in insecurity, with reports of kidnappings, armed robberies, and violent attacks.

This surge in crime has created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among residents, who are increasingly worried about their safety and well-being.

The root causes of insecurity in Anambra State are multifaceted and complex.

Poverty, unemployment, and economic inequality have contributed to the rise in crime, as many young people are forced to turn to illegal activities to survive.

Additionally, the state’s history of communal clashes and land disputes has created tensions and conflicts that can escalate into violence.
