Some members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, in 1999, had reportedly prayed the then Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, to order the mental evaluation of then state governor, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, according to reports.
Enugu Metropolitan Network reported that the lawmakers believed that he was mentally unstable, hence, needed safeguarding for his own protection and that of the public.
The report recalled that “while he was Governor, some aides believed that the harmattan exacerbated his condition and they warned people not to annoy him then”.
It noted that the fear-stricken aides whispered in hush tones to avoid some unexpected tantrums.
“It is on the basis of this story that he wanted to fight Chijioke Edeoga a few months ago publicly,” the report added.
A source also confirmed that it was a serious rumour back then, while another added that he has a younger brother that drives Peugeot 406 back then with similar mental health challenge.
‘This was an open secret in Enugu state then; everyone knows that Chimaroke Nnamani is melancholic,’ another source noted.
Nnamani could not be reached for response as his phone was switched off when News Band tried to contact for comment.
The senator representing Enugu East senatorial zone came under serious public scrutiny recently when he started making erratic posts on social media attacking perceived political enemies online.
The case of the leader of Ebeano political family in Enugu State reached a crescendo when he begun campaigning for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2023 presidential election, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Nnamani was seen and heard openly campaigning for Tinubu despite being the current Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Enugu East senatorial zone in the same election.
Recently, Senator Nnamani’s campaign posters were seen with his photo beside Tinubu’s in the Coal City. Read more.
