Published

on

It was a sort of nightmare and disgusting for the Elombah.com family and well-wishers, the gruesome ordeal the Chief Editor, Tim Elombah went through in the hands of the Nigeria police.

Hence our joy and happiness that the Man Tim is finally out.

It should be recalled that Court granted the police custody of 7 days, but Tim happens to stay in police custody for more than 24 days counting.

Tim, finally  regained freedom at about 4.pm local time, Thursday evening.

It should also be noted that The Elombahs, had sued to enforce his fundamental rights and is also seeking N2bn against the IGP and Police for damages following his 25-day incarceration.

Tim was arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) along with the Publisher of the newspaper, Daniel Elombah and their younger brother Izuchukwu Elombah in the wee hours of New Year’s Day in their family home in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Daniel was later released on bail while Tim remained in detention.

An Area Court Judge in Abuja had earlier remanded Tim in police custody for 7 days only but the remand expired and the Police continued to detain him illegally.

Findings revealed that the Elombah brothers were arrested for an opinion article titled “IGP Ibrahim Idris’s Unending Baggage of Controversies” written by one Eboiwei Dickson, that was published on another website – opinion Nigeria – which the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris found offensive.

The House of Representatives had also intervened and is likely to launch an investigation into the unlawful arrest and detention of the Elombah brothers.
