President Bola Tinubu has approved a funding allocation of N10 billion to further the digital switchover initiative.

The digital switchover which started under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari is the migration from analogue television broadcasting technology to digital systems.

During a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, Charles Ebuebu, the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), noted that the funds would build upon the existing infrastructure rather than starting from scratch.

“This funding is an enhancement of our previous efforts. The president’s approval of N10 billion is a significant boost to advance this process,” Ebuebu explained.

He stressed that this financial support is not merely a budgetary provision but a reflection of President Tinubu’s dedication to technological progress, economic development, and cultural growth through the Digital Switchover (DSO) initiative.

Ebuebu highlighted that the grant signifies a commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian has access to high-quality broadband services and is included in the digital economy. To expedite this transition, the NBC is partnering with the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC).
