President Bola Tinubu has told members of The Buhari Organisation (TBO), led by former Nasarawa governor Senator Tanko Almakura, that Nigeria has met its 2024 revenue target ahead of schedule through the non-oil sector.
He said his administration remains focused on national progress despite external pressures, including actions by former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Reflecting on his early political alliance with the late Muhammadu Buhari, Tinubu emphasised mutual respect and dedication to progressive governance. He recalled their spirited debates, saying: “He insisted on parliament and I insisted on broom. He’s so stubborn.”
The President pledged to build on Buhari’s legacy of honesty, transparency, and justice, promising Nigerians “joy at the end of this journey.” He further revealed plans to establish a Buhari House as a centre of prosperity and remembrance.
On economic reforms, Tinubu highlighted progress in stabilising the naira, noting an improvement from N1,900 to N1,450 per dollar. He declared that Nigeria has stopped borrowing, stressing: “We have met our revenue target for the year and we met it in August.”
He assured Nigerians that job creation through export expansion, industrial growth, and import diversification remains a priority. Tinubu also announced a nationwide farm mechanisation programme, with regional farm centres to boost food security and reduce poverty.
Addressing concerns raised by Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar about struggling Nigerian embassies, Tinubu admitted the complexity of staffing ambassadorial positions while ensuring proper funding.
Almakura, speaking for TBO, thanked Tinubu for honouring Buhari with full state burial rites, describing him as a “symbol of consolation” during the mourning period. He said Tinubu’s actions reflected dignity, loyalty, and respect for Buhari’s legacy.
House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas also praised Tinubu’s leadership, noting the increased influence of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc within the APC government, with three serving governors and several lawmakers.
The delegation included Abdulraheem Shittu, former Minister of Communications; Waziri Bulama, former APC National Secretary; Haruna Hima, former lawmaker; Garba Mohammed, former Deputy Minority Whip; Ibrahim Baba, CPC governorship candidate and RMAFC commissioner; Mary Efere, CPC governorship candidate; and Farouk Adamu Aliyu, CPC governorship candidate, among others.
Tinubu urged his supporters not to be distracted by political noise ahead of 2027, assuring them of his commitment to justice, transparency, and prosperity.
