Tinubu Under Fire as Peter Obi Speaks on X

Former presidential candidate and ex-Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has once again made bold declarations about his political vision, national security, and Nigeria’s democratic future.

In a live X Space conversation hosted on June 29, 2025, the Labour Party stalwart addressed key issues facing Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) monitored the virtual session, which featured Obi responding to pressing questions on zoning, corruption, and the country’s fragile unity.

Obi began by clarifying his position on zoning and political equity, reaffirming his belief in the rotation of leadership between Nigeria’s North and South.

He noted that his time as governor of Anambra State exemplified his respect for agreements and commitment to equity.

Obi stressed that if there is a national consensus or political accord limiting him to a single four-year term, he would abide by it and exit office on May 28, 2031.

Turning to the nation’s stability, the former vice-presidential candidate promised to restore peace and order across Nigeria within the first two years of his presidency.

Obi declared that effective leadership cannot be administered from abroad, insisting that Nigerian leaders should remain in the country to confront its many crises.

He launched a sharp critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s foreign trips, describing them as excessive and disconnected from national realities.

Obi compared Saint Lucia, where President Tinubu is reported to be spending 10 days, to Ilorin, Nigeria’s 10th largest city, questioning the relevance of such international visits.

He accused Tinubu of never spending a single night in any Nigerian state outside Lagos since assuming office in 2023.

On persistent rumours of political alliances, Obi dismissed claims of ongoing discussions regarding joint tickets, particularly with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

He further addressed Nigeria’s worsening security situation, stating unequivocally that the country is at war and needs immediate, strategic action.

Obi pledged that his administration would not tolerate any form of insecurity, and that national safety would be his first agenda.

Speaking on electoral strategy for 2027, Obi stressed that his movement remains committed to non-violence and peaceful advocacy.

However, he warned that they will demand strict adherence to due process before any election results are announced in Abuja.

He also unveiled priorities for his first 100 days in office, listing national security, education, and poverty eradication as urgent areas of focus.

The former governor vowed to cut unnecessary government spending, fight corruption head-on, and ensure that his family members are not involved in any financial wrongdoing.

Obi said every kobo of public funds will be directed to critical sectors and not siphoned through family or cronies.

He restated his firm commitment to remaining within the Labour Party and confirmed the party’s legal team is still pushing for full recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Obi called for greater unity among opposition forces and hinted that a coalition may still be formed ahead of 2027.

He noted that while a final party platform is yet to be decided, ongoing political engagement and coalition meetings are signs of hope for national redemption.

The former governor also addressed concerns over party defections, pledging that under his leadership, no elected official will jump ship to another party.

He stated that his perceived humility or friendliness should not be mistaken for weakness.

Obi promised to enforce the law without fear or favour, warning that no one will be above the law in his government.

He declared that votes must count in 2027, and pledged that all mechanisms will be put in place to ensure credible, free, and fair elections.

On agriculture and rural development, Obi stated that security is a prerequisite for food production.

He emphasized that Nigerian farmers, many of whom have abandoned their lands due to insecurity, will be protected and encouraged to return.

Obi concluded by calling for personal and collective sacrifice from citizens and politicians alike, expressing optimism that Nigeria can still be redeemed.

He stressed that leadership must be about service, not self-enrichment or deception.
