Supporters of President Bola Tinubu have flooded Kaduna Township Stadium as the All Progressives Congress (APC) begins its campaign for his re-election in the 2027 presidential election, drawing party loyalists, political leaders and supporters to the northern city.
The campaign flag-off, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, has placed Kaduna at the centre of the ruling party’s early efforts to consolidate political support ahead of the next general election.
The gathering follows days of mobilisation across the state, with APC supporters organising solidarity marches, displaying campaign banners and filling major roads with party colours in anticipation of the president’s arrival.
Kaduna has become a strategic starting point for the campaign because of the North’s substantial share of Nigeria’s registered voters and the importance of northern support in presidential elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission’s figures put the number of registered voters in the three northern geopolitical zones at approximately 56 million, representing more than half of Nigeria’s 103.43 million registered voters.

For the APC, the campaign provides an opportunity to strengthen its presence in the region and persuade voters to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
Ahead of the stadium event, thousands of supporters participated in a solidarity march through Kaduna on Friday. The procession, organised by the Presidential Campaign Council’s Support Groups Mobilisation Directorate, began around the Savannah Bank area before proceeding to the Kaduna State Government House.
Governor Uba Sani received the delegation, which later returned to the APC Ciki da Waje State Secretariat.
The procession featured party flags, campaign materials, drumming and dancing as participants expressed support for Tinubu and his administration.
Silas Ali Agara, director of the Support Groups Mobilisation Directorate, said the mobilisation was intended to demonstrate the commitment of the president’s supporters and prepare them for a wider grassroots campaign.
He also urged members of the support groups to look beyond rallies and processions by engaging citizens and explaining the administration’s policies and programmes.
Agara said the directorate had approximately 10,000 support groups nationwide and intended to use the network to strengthen mobilisation ahead of the election.

Governor Sani also expressed support for the president’s re-election campaign, praising the administration’s policies and encouraging party members to remain united and engage with citizens.
The rally comes as the APC seeks to build on its political structures across northern Nigeria. Party leaders have expressed confidence that Tinubu can secure another term, citing government programmes, infrastructure projects and efforts to address insecurity.
However, the political significance of the Kaduna gathering extends beyond the number of supporters attending the stadium.
Tinubu lost Kaduna State to the Labour Party’s Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election, making the state an important battleground in the ruling party’s efforts to expand its support ahead of 2027.
The APC’s decision to begin its presidential campaign in Kaduna therefore highlights the importance party leaders attach to northern voters.
The party is also targeting a broader national mobilisation strategy, with campaign officials planning engagements across several states. According to earlier announcements by the campaign council, subsequent activities are expected to include visits to Rivers and Borno states.
Despite the enthusiasm among APC supporters, the administration faces questions from Nigerians over economic conditions, insecurity, unemployment and the rising cost of living.
Some Kaduna residents have called on the president to use the campaign period to explain how his government intends to address these challenges and improve living standards.
For these citizens, the central question is whether government policies will translate into practical improvements in household incomes, access to essential services and personal security.
The competing expectations reflect the issues likely to shape the 2027 presidential contest, as the APC seeks to defend its record while opposition parties prepare to challenge the president’s bid for another term.
As the campaign gets under way in Kaduna, the APC will be looking to turn the enthusiasm displayed by its supporters into sustained grassroots engagement and electoral backing across the country.
The rally marks the beginning of a critical period for the ruling party, with the coming months expected to test its organisation, political alliances and ability to convince voters that Tinubu deserves another four years in office.
