(DDM) – The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has issued a strong caution to former President Goodluck Jonathan, warning him to beware of individuals urging him to contest in the 2027 presidential election.

DDM gathered that Bwala, speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, accused these political actors of having played a role in Jonathan’s political exit in 2015.

Bwala argued that there is currently no politician in Nigeria with the capacity to unseat President Tinubu in 2027.

He said this includes former presidential candidate Peter Obi, who contested on the Labour Party (LP) platform in 2023 and came second with 6,101,533 votes behind Tinubu’s 8,794,726.

According to Bwala, Obi would struggle to even secure the presidential ticket of the Labour Party, African Democratic Congress (ADC), or Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next election cycle.

He stressed that political realities on the ground suggest Obi might be sidelined entirely, even as a potential running mate.

“I have seen the political climate in Nigeria today, and I will speak to facts, not conjectures,” Bwala declared.

“There’s not a single politician who has the capacity to knock off President Bola Tinubu on all fronts.”

With less than two years to the 2027 general elections, political realignments have intensified across the country.

Top opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Senate President David Mark, have reportedly been engaged in strategic consultations to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, several groups have called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the race, though Jonathan himself has not publicly declared his intention to run.

Bwala, however, maintained that Jonathan enjoys a respected international image since leaving office in 2015.

He warned that returning to partisan politics under the influence of those who once opposed him could damage his reputation.

“Some unscrupulous elements are trying to hoodwink former President Goodluck Jonathan to come into politics so they can destroy the reputation he has been building after he left government,” Bwala said.

He further accused certain northern political actors of hypocrisy.

“The elements that are going to him in the North, asking him to come and run — were they not the ones that chased him away?” he asked.

Bwala insisted that Tinubu’s political reach, which cuts across both the northern and southern regions, gives him a decisive advantage heading into the next election.

Political analysts note that Bwala’s remarks reflect the APC’s confidence in retaining power in 2027, as well as the deep divisions within Nigeria’s opposition camp.

For now, Jonathan has remained silent on whether he will heed these calls, leaving both supporters and critics speculating on his political future.
