Top Lagos cleric warns Tinubu: ‘US set a trap for you’

(DDM) – Primate Elijah Ayodele, the spiritual head of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church in Lagos, has warned President Bola Tinubu that the American government has allegedly set a trap for him.

DDM gathered that the prophecy was issued in a viral video posted on the church’s official Facebook page, which has since attracted nationwide attention.

In the footage, Primate Ayodele specifically urged Tinubu to be extremely careful in his dealings with the United States government.

“Tinubu, American government set a trap for you,” Ayodele declared in the video.

“Watch so that you will not enter that trap,” he warned, adding weight to concerns about Nigeria’s fragile international alliances.

The cleric’s statement has sparked conversations among Nigerians, especially given the country’s long and complex ties with the US.

Nigeria and the United States have historically maintained strong diplomatic, trade, and security relations, particularly revolving around oil exports.

Over the last decade, both nations have diversified their oil diplomacy, yet the US remains one of Nigeria’s largest crude oil markets.

Beyond oil, the US is also Nigeria’s top foreign investor and a significant contributor of development aid.

It is estimated that over a million Nigerians and Nigerian-Americans live, study, and work in the United States.

At the same time, about 25,000 Americans live and work in Nigeria, further cementing deep cultural and economic exchanges between both countries.

Remittances from Nigerians abroad, particularly from the US, remain a vital lifeline for families and a boost to the economy.

Primate Ayodele’s warning therefore touches on a critical point, suggesting that bilateral friendship could be undermined by hidden political traps.

Observers note that his prophecy comes at a time when President Tinubu has been seeking closer ties with Washington.

In April, Tinubu received Massad Boulos, a senior advisor for Africa and representative from President Donald Trump’s team.

During that meeting, discussions focused on regional security, economic support, and new strategies for cooperation.

Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to build productive alliances with the United States and other global powers.

Despite this, Ayodele’s warning has raised concerns that external pressures could compromise Nigeria’s independence in global politics.

A 2023 Pew Research Center survey revealed that 74% of Nigerians held positive views of the United States, reflecting trust in the relationship.

However, critics argue that high dependence on foreign partners can limit Nigeria’s leverage, forcing a delicate balance of mutual respect.

For now, Nigerians remain divided between welcoming closer American ties and heeding Ayodele’s spiritual caution about potential political traps.

The prophecy has added a new dimension to ongoing debates about Tinubu’s foreign policy strategy.
