Tottenham’s £20m gamble: Spurs set to sack Postecoglou, eye Brentford’s Thomas Frank as bold replacement

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a major managerial shake-up that could cost the club nearly £20 million.

Manager Ange Postecoglou is set to be dismissed just two years after his appointment, despite recent Europa League success, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports.

Reports from the Daily Mirror reveal the club’s top target is Brentford boss Thomas Frank, a highly respected figure.

Frank, under contract until 2027, has a release clause estimated to exceed £10 million, reflecting Brentford’s desire to keep him.

The Danish manager is seen as the ideal candidate to continue Spurs’ recent progress and competitive performances.

Tottenham believe Frank’s tactical intelligence and Premier League experience make him the perfect long-term option for the club.

However, luring Frank to North London won’t come cheap or easy given his current contractual commitments.

His contract renewal in 2022 included a significant buy-out clause as a deterrent to potential suitors like Spurs.

There are also rumours of a gentleman’s agreement between Frank and Brentford to stay for another season.

Still, Tottenham’s offer, if it meets the release clause, could force Brentford’s hand and change Frank’s stance.

Meanwhile, dismissing Postecoglou will cost Spurs around £5 million in severance compensation.

He is also entitled to a £2 million bonus after guiding the team to Europa League victory.

Altogether, the total expense for this managerial transition could near the £20 million mark.

Despite this, club chairman Daniel Levy remains keen on making a bold investment in Tottenham’s future.

Spurs view the move as necessary to build on their Champions League qualification and modern stadium advantage.

Thomas Frank is also attracting interest from other Premier League and European clubs seeking new leadership.

Tottenham’s status, resources, and ambitions could make their offer the most compelling for the Brentford manager.

The club is keeping other options open, including Fulham boss Marco Silva, though Frank remains the priority.

Tottenham are undergoing wider leadership changes off the pitch as well.

Long-serving director Donna Cullen recently stepped down from her executive role.

Former Arsenal CEO Vinai Venkatesham has taken her place as Tottenham’s new chief executive.

Additionally, former director Fabio Paratici is expected to return in an advisory capacity after his suspension ended.

Both Postecoglou and Frank have recently commented on their futures amid growing speculation.

Postecoglou insisted he was planning for next season and proud of his achievements at Tottenham.

Frank expressed his continued commitment to Brentford after their defeat to Fulham, downplaying the exit rumours.

Still, Tottenham’s interest appears serious and could soon test Brentford’s and Frank’s resolve.

As summer approaches, Spurs are preparing for major transitions both on and off the pitch.

The club now faces the challenge of balancing ambition with the high cost of change.

Securing Frank could mark a new era for Tottenham, if Levy is ready to pay the price.
