Tragedy hits Nigeria: Multiple deaths reported in stampede incidents

A devastating day in Nigeria has seen multiple lives lost in separate stampede incidents in Anambra and Abuja.

In Anambra State, a stampede occurred during a rice-sharing event in Okija, Anambra State, resulting in an unspecified number of fatalities.

The incident happened when a large crowd gathered to receive free bags of rice, leading to chaos and panic.

In a separate incident in Abuja, 10 people, including four children, lost their lives in a stampede during a palliatives sharing event at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama.

Eight others were injured, with four already treated and discharged.

The FCT Police Command confirmed the fatalities in Abuja and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.

The Command also directed that all organizations planning public events or large gatherings must notify the police in advance to ensure adequate security measures.
