A major traffic jam occurred on Saturday, April 17, 2025, following a trailer accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

According to Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports, the incident happened in the early hours of the morning near the Berger axis of Lagos State.

Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer, which was conveying a large container, suddenly lost balance and overturned on the expressway.

The crash completely blocked the outbound section of the highway, cutting off movement toward Ogun State.

No other vehicle was involved in the crash, suggesting the trailer may have developed a fault or was poorly handled.

As of 8:00 a.m., traffic congestion had stretched from the crash site at Berger Bridge to the Old Toll Gate near the 7Up Bottling Company.

The heavy gridlock left hundreds of commuters stranded, many of whom were heading out of Lagos for the weekend.

In an attempt to escape the standstill, some motorists began driving against traffic on the inbound lanes.

This dangerous move created a secondary congestion on the opposite side of the expressway and increased the risk of a head-on collision.

Traffic officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were spotted at the scene.

Emergency workers battled to remove the overturned trailer and restore traffic, but clearance was still ongoing as of press time.

The response teams had to use heavy-duty equipment to lift the container off the road.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities, although officials have not released a full update.

This crash is part of a disturbing trend of trailer-related accidents on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The expressway is one of Nigeria’s busiest highways, used daily by thousands of private and commercial vehicles.

Over the years, it has become notorious for fatal crashes involving tankers and trailers, many caused by vehicle failure or reckless driving.

Road users have repeatedly called on government agencies to enforce stricter regulations on haulage operators using this route.

Experts have warned that unless urgent steps are taken, these crashes will continue to put lives and businesses at risk.

Authorities are urging drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes until the obstruction is cleared.

Further updates are expected as emergency teams work to restore the free flow of traffic on the expressway.
