The Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Samuel Shekwolo, has told residents who do not support the All Progressives Congress to leave the council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Shekwolo made the statement in a video circulating on social media on Tuesday while addressing residents and supporters.
The council chairman said his position was based on what he described as the developmental efforts of President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in Kuje.
According to him, residents should not benefit from interventions by the Federal Government and the FCT administration and then vote against the APC in 2027.
“I have said in my area council, it’s either you are doing APC or leave the area council; I’m not hiding that. With confidence, I’m saying it.
“You know why, I cannot have President and Minister doing what they are doing and on the day of election, you will want to match me. It’s either you are with us, or you are out,” he said.
The remarks have raised concerns over the tone of political statements by public officials as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development also comes shortly after controversy over comments attributed to Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
In a video circulated on social media, Fadahunsi, while addressing APC supporters in Ilesa, Osun State, was heard allegedly saying that any Accord Party member seen in Ilesa before the election would be killed.
The remarks attracted condemnation from political actors and civil society groups, while Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke called for the senator’s arrest and investigation.
Fadahunsi later denied advocating violence, saying his comments had been misconstrued. He explained that he meant the APC would defeat the Accord Party through votes rather than physically attack its members.
The senator was subsequently invited and questioned by the Osun State Police Command over the remarks.
Shekwolo’s latest comments have again drawn attention to concerns over inflammatory political rhetoric and its potential impact on tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Kuje chairman was elected on the APC platform in the February 2026 FCT Area Council election, securing 17,269 votes, according to the result announced by the returning officer.
