Election petition tribunal sitting in Enugu State, has sacked Honourable Ijere Obinna Anthony of the Labour Party–LP as the member representing Udenu constituency at the state House of Assembly.
The Independent National Electoral Commission—INEC had declared ijere as the winner of the March 18 election, but the tribunal in it’s judgement on Saturday, said the LP’s candidate did not qualify to stand for the election based on provisions of the 2022 electoral act.
The three man panel headed by Honourable Justice Adie Attoe Onyebueke while delivering their judgment on the petition lodged by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party—PDP, Solomon Izuchukwu Onah ruled that the LP candidate was not qualified to stand for the election because he didn’t resign from his place of work (University of Nigeria Nsukka) within the slated time in line with the new electoral act
The tribunal ordered INEC to issue a certificate of return to Hon. Onah.
