Troops achieve major successes in counterterrorism operations in Borno State

The Nigerian Army’s 21 Armoured Brigade launched decisive counterterrorism operations.

Collaborating with the 199 Special Forces and CJTF, they targeted Boko Haram in Borno State.

Through coordinated strikes, the forces neutralized insurgents, securing key territories and marking a critical breakthrough.

Recently, security forces eliminated top commander Abba Alai and neutralized multiple insurgents in Garin Fallujah and Gwoza.

Following credible intelligence, troops targeted a heavily fortified Boko Haram enclave where insurgents regrouped to plan attacks.

Troops launched a well-coordinated offensive, engaging the terrorists in intense combat. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the Nigerian forces, the insurgents attempted to flee but suffered heavy casualties.

Among those neutralized was Abba Alai, a notorious Boko Haram commander known for orchestrating deadly attacks across the region. His death is considered a significant blow to the terrorist group’s operational capabilities.

Troops raided an insurgent camp, seizing an AK-47 rifle, magazine, 23 7.62mm rounds, radio, DSHK barrel, motorcycle, and medical supplies.

Meanwhile, troops strategically deployed a blocking force in Gwoza, intercepting insurgents fleeing Sambisa Forest and thwarting their escape.

The engagement occurred in Gobara village, where a fierce battle ensued.

The insurgents faced a chaotic retreat, leaving behind a cache of weapons and ammunition in their haste.

During the operation, troops recovered significant items, including 57 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition and 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Additionally, they found three AK-47 rifle magazines, a locally fabricated dane gun, and two prototype firearms reportedly designed for terrorist training.

In a notable success during the Gwoza operation, troops rescued an elderly woman held hostage by Boko Haram for a staggering 10 years.

Fortunately, she has been evacuated to safety and is now receiving the necessary medical attention.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, lauded the troops for their relentless efforts and professionalism in combating terrorism.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to eradicating insurgency and restoring peace and stability to the region.

These recent successes underscore the Nigerian military’s continued resolve to dismantle terrorist networks and protect citizens from the threat of insurgency.
