United States President Donald Trump has said the US naval blockade targeting Iran will stay in place until a comprehensive agreement is reached with Tehran.
In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump stressed that while the Strait of Hormuz has been reopened to commercial traffic, restrictions specifically aimed at Iran will not be lifted yet.
“The Strait of Hormuz is open and ready for full passage,” he wrote. “But the naval blockade will remain fully in effect as it relates to Iran until our deal is 100% complete.”
His remarks came shortly after Iran announced that the vital shipping route key to global oil supply would be accessible again following a ceasefire linked to the broader Middle East conflict.
The contrasting positions highlight a delicate balance: easing pressure on global energy flows while maintaining leverage over Tehran as negotiations continue.
