Trump Pushes $1.5trn War Budget, Sparks Fierce Political Battle

(DDM) – The White House has proposed a massive $1.5 trillion defence budget, with President Donald Trump urging lawmakers to approve what is being described as the largest military spending plan in modern United States history.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) confirmed that the proposal is directly linked to rising military costs driven by the ongoing conflict with Iran, which has become a central factor in U.S. fiscal and security policy.

The administration warned that increased global threats and active war conditions require an unprecedented expansion of military funding to maintain U.S. dominance.

According to details of the proposal, the budget represents about a 40 percent increase from previous defence spending levels, marking one of the most significant surges in decades.

The White House stated that the funding would support troop pay increases, weapons production, missile defence systems, and large-scale shipbuilding programmes.

Key projects are expected to include advanced missile defence initiatives, expansion of the defence industrial base, and replenishment of military stockpiles depleted by ongoing conflicts.

However, the proposal comes with major trade-offs that have already triggered political tension.

The administration is seeking approximately a 10 percent reduction in non-defence spending, targeting sectors such as healthcare, education, environmental protection, and other social programmes.

Critics have reacted strongly, warning that prioritising war spending over domestic needs could deepen inequality and weaken essential public services.

Lawmakers opposing the plan argue that the budget overlooks critical investments in social welfare at a time when many Americans are facing economic challenges.

The proposal is expected to spark a fierce legislative battle in Congress, where approval is required before implementation.

Political analysts say the scale of the increase reflects a strategic shift toward military expansion amid rising geopolitical tensions.

They note that the Iran conflict has significantly reshaped U.S. spending priorities, placing defence at the forefront of national policy.

At the same time, concerns are growing over the long-term fiscal implications, particularly as the U.S. national debt continues to rise.

Observers warn that sustaining such high levels of military expenditure could place additional strain on the economy if not carefully managed.

As debate intensifies in Washington, the proposed budget is set to dominate national discourse, with both political parties preparing for a high-stakes confrontation over the country’s priorities.
