United States President Donald Trump says there is now a “very good chance” Washington and Iran could reach a new agreement aimed at stopping Tehran from developing nuclear weapons, after he decided to delay a planned military strike to keep negotiations alive.
Speaking at the White House on Monday, Trump revealed that leaders from several Middle Eastern allies had urged him to hold off on a military operation that had reportedly been scheduled for Tuesday.
According to him, the request was made to give diplomatic talks with Iran more time, even as the United States continues to prepare for possible military action if negotiations collapse.
“There seems to be a very good chance that they can work something out,” Trump told reporters during an event focused on drug pricing.
“If we can do that without bombing the hell out of them, I would be very happy.”
The latest remarks suggest a possible shift toward diplomacy after weeks of rising tensions between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear activities and the broader conflict involving the U.S., Israel and Iranian-backed groups in the Middle East.
Although Trump did not provide details about the ongoing discussions, his comments come amid renewed international pressure to avoid a wider regional war.
The situation remains fragile, with U.S. officials warning that military options are still on the table if no agreement is reached.
