Trump to attend G7 summit, warns of potential US involvement in Iran-Israel conflict

President Donald Trump stated that while the United States is not currently involved in the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, the situation could change.

Speaking to reporters before leaving for the G7 summit in Canada, Trump reiterated U.S. support for Israel but refrained from providing specifics on potential actions.

In an earlier interview with ABC News on June 15, Trump was asked whether the U.S. might increase its involvement in the conflict, which had intensified over the past three days.

“We’re not involved in it,” he replied.

“It’s possible we could get involved.

“But we are not at this moment involved.”

He added that he still hoped for a diplomatic solution, noting, “I think it’s time for a deal… Sometimes they have to fight it out, but we’ll see what happens.”

Meanwhile, renewed airstrikes continued to pound both nations.

Explosions shook central Tehran throughout the afternoon, with Iranian media reporting hits near Vali-e Asr Square and an air force district.

Earlier Israeli attacks targeted multiple Iranian sites, including the Defense Ministry, oil refineries, and a gas processing facility.

Iranian state TV announced that public shelters such as mosques and subway stations would be opened to civilians seeking safety.

In Israel, sirens sounded nationwide around 4 p.m., marking Iran’s first daytime aerial assault since the conflict erupted on June 13, when Israel launched surprise strikes on Iranian nuclear and missile facilities.

The violence also prompted Yemen’s Houthi rebels to declare they had fired missiles at Israel in coordination with Iran, raising concerns the conflict could further destabilize the region.

Nuclear Talks Collapse

As hostilities intensified, a scheduled round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States, set for June 15 in Oman, was abruptly canceled.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi labeled the talks “meaningless” following the Israeli airstrikes.

Speaking to state media, he accused Israel of trying to derail diplomacy and claimed that U.S. backing for Israel’s actions made further negotiations unjustifiable.

Araqchi maintained that Iran was acting in self-defense and that its retaliation would end if Israeli attacks ceased.

In Israel, Iranian drone and missile strikes continued to cause casualties.

Israeli officials reported that at least 13 people had died and roughly 200 were wounded since the onset of the conflict.

On June 15, rescue services said an Iranian missile struck a home in northern Israel, injuring 14 and killing a woman in her 20s.

In the Shephelah region, another strike claimed three lives—including a 10-year-old boy—and wounded about 100 others.

Iran’s Tasnim news agency, closely linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), confirmed a new wave of Iranian drone and missile attacks on Israel on June 15.

Yehya Sarea, a military spokesperson for the Houthis, also announced on television that his forces had launched ballistic missiles at Jaffa, marking the first time an Iran-aligned group publicly coordinated attacks with Tehran.

Escalation and Civilian Toll

In Tehran, growing panic sent residents scrambling to refuel and flee the city.

A reporter for German news agency dpa described long queues as people tried to escape impending air raids.

“Tehran is burning,” Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz wrote in Hebrew on social media.

Iran reported significant casualties from Israeli strikes.

On June 15, the Iranian Health Ministry confirmed 224 deaths and over 1,270 injuries since the conflict began, with more than 90% of those affected being civilians.

On the first day alone, 78 were killed, including 29 children when a missile demolished a 14-story apartment building.

Initially, Israel had avoided targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure due to global fuel concerns, but that changed on June 15 when Israeli strikes hit two fuel storage sites in Tehran.

A fire also broke out at the South Pars gas field in southern Bushehr Province during an Israeli attack, according to Iranian state media.

In a video message, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned: “Soon, you will see Israeli Air Force planes over Tehran.

“We will strike every location and target tied to the Ayatollah regime.”

On social media, the Israeli military urged Iranian civilians near weapons facilities to evacuate, hinting at further attacks.

By midday, new explosions were reported in Tehran.

Iranian General Esmail Kosari stated that the government was weighing whether to shut down the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil passageway, through which about 20% of the world’s petroleum supply travels.
