White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will leave her role at the end of August to spend more time with her family, President Donald Trump has announced.

Leavitt, 28, who became the youngest person to serve as a US presidential press secretary, will remain a senior adviser to Trump and an influential voice within the Republican Party.

Trump described Leavitt as one of his most trusted aides, while she said she could no longer give the press secretary role the attention required while being the mother of two young children.

Leavitt became a prominent defender of Trump during his 2024 presidential campaign and returned to the White House as his press secretary in January 2025.

Why has the release of the relevant FBI records become such a major point of controversy? And what could those documents reveal about the circumstances surrounding the case? In this revealing political and legal analysis, Bar. Emeka Ugwuonye, US-based Legal Consultant and CEO of Due Process Advocate International (DPA), offers his perspective on the controversy surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s alleged historical connection to a US drug investigation and the ongoing debate over the release of investigative records. Speaking during an exclusive interview on Diaspora Digital Media (DDM), Ugwuonye explained that the decision to indict someone ultimately rests with the US Department of Justice, and that prosecutors have broad discretion in deciding whether to pursue criminal charges. According to him, the fact that a person was not indicted does not necessarily mean investigators found nothing concerning. He argued that the more important question is: What did the US authorities actually find during the investigation, and what informed their decision not to indict? Ugwuonye said the answers may only become clear if the investigation records are made public. He also discussed the FBI’s position on releasing the documents, noting that the agency has resisted fully disclosing information relating to the investigation. He questioned why the FBI would be unwilling to confirm or deny whether it investigated Tinubu, while also examining the agency’s argument that releasing the records could compromise its investigative methods and processes.
