Two dead, three injured as deadly explosion rocks Kaduna

A tragic explosion on Tuesday April 22, rocked the Abakpa area of Kaduna State, claiming the lives of two children and leaving three others injured.

According to reports, the explosion occurred around 10:15 am, just two kilometers from the old Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) site.

Eyewitnesses said the blast tore through the neighborhood without warning.

The deceased children have been identified as Imam, aged 13, and Nasrin, aged six.

One resident, who witnessed the incident, said Imam was still breathing after the explosion.

He rushed the boy to the hospital but Imam died before they arrived.

Another witness described hearing a loud bang followed by thick smoke and screams.

Parents and relatives scrambled to locate their children as chaos erupted in the neighborhood.

Three other residents sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the explosion.

Security agencies responded promptly and cordoned off the area.

Operatives from the police and civil defense deployed bomb disposal experts to the site.

Investigators are combing through the debris to establish what triggered the blast.

As of press time, no arrests have been made.

Military sources confirmed that the blast site lies outside NDA territory.

Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) also visited the scene and assisted victims.

The incident has thrown the community into mourning.

Parents have expressed fear over the safety of their children.

Some residents are calling on authorities to improve surveillance around sensitive installations.

A local youth leader, Yusuf Bala, urged the government to secure abandoned buildings and open spaces.

He said criminal elements often exploit neglected areas to hide dangerous materials.

Residents demanded answers and urged quick intervention to prevent future tragedies.

As investigations continue, the Kaduna State Government has promised full support for affected families.

Officials pledged to cover medical expenses and offer psychological support to the victims.
