U.S. cracks down on “narco submarine” kingpins in major drug trafficking bust

The Trump administration has sanctioned six individuals linked to an advanced cocaine (drug) trafficking operation.

They are accused of using semi-submersible vessels, known as “narco subs” , to smuggle drugs into the United States, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathers.

The announcement was made by the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) on Friday.

The six suspects are operatives of a powerful Latin American drug cartel.

These individuals reportedly coordinated massive drug shipments across international waters using stealthy, low-profile vessels.

The narco subs are specially designed to evade law enforcement detection during long transoceanic voyages.

Each vessel can carry several tons of cocaine from South America directly to U.S. shores.

Authorities say these vessels operate nearly undetected, posing serious challenges to traditional maritime surveillance systems.

The U.S. Treasury said the sanctions aim to dismantle the financial infrastructure of this criminal network.

As part of the sanctions, all U.S.-based assets of the accused have been frozen.

They are also barred from engaging in financial transactions with American individuals or entities.

“These individuals have profited from poisoning our communities,” said a Treasury official during the announcement.

The official added that targeting these operations sends a strong message against high-tech smuggling methods.

Law enforcement reports confirm that drug cartels are increasingly turning to maritime routes to evade border security.

Narco subs represent one of the most innovative and elusive methods used by traffickers in recent years.
