The Imo State Commissioner for Home Land Security and Vigilante Affairs, Prince (Dr) Ugorji Okechukwu Ugorji, has launched two new books “Securing the Homeland” and “Ilu: African Proverbs in Igbo, With English Translations“.
The two books were showcased during a public presentation/launching held at the Conference Centre of the Ministry of Culture and Creative Artist (former temporary chambers of the Imo State House of Assembly), New Owerri, hosted by the Imo State Ministry of Culture and Creative Arts.


The event that was held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, had the theme “Writer/Author In Focus: The Significant Works Of Dr. Ugorji Okechukwu Ugorji”
During the event, Dr. Ugorji also seized the opportunity to showcase his other older books including “She Is Eternal And Other Poems“, “From The Belly of The Gods“, “The Adventures Of Torti — Tales From West Africa“, “I Just Saw The Sky Fall” and “Sunrise Daughters — A Global Portrait Of Igbo Women“.
At the glamorous event, it had the state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma as the Special Guest of Honour.
It also had the Hon. Commissioner, Ministry of Culture and Creative Arts, Maazi Uche Ohia, as the Chief Host.
Therein, Ugorji courted the recognition of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Imo State chapter, and the African Writers Endowment (AWE), Princeton, the United States, in association with the State Culture and Creative Arts Ministry.
The recognition culminated in the highlight of the occasion, which was the presentation of the ANA/AWE’s “Writer In Focus Award” by Dr. Gbenga Ajileye, who introduced himself as “an Igbo man from Ekiti” to the applause and cheer of the audience.
