Two Nigerians living in the United Kingdom UK have been deported shortly after returning from a trip to Nigeria where they attended a family wedding.
According to a Nigerian lawyer based in the UK who shared the incident online, the deported individuals had travelled to Lagos to witness the wedding ceremony of their cousin.
Upon their return to the UK, they were reportedly stopped at the airport and denied re-entry due to documentation issues.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) learned that the individuals did not possess valid immigration documents, which made them ineligible to legally re-enter the country.
The lawyer, who did not disclose the identities of the affected individuals, issued a public warning to Nigerians currently residing in the UK without proper immigration status.
He advised undocumented migrants to avoid leaving the country at this time, especially if they are unsure of their employment or residency status.
In his words, “If you are not ‘correct’ and your employment situation is not sure, do not travel out of the country so that you are not gone forever.”
He went on to explain that both individuals were sent back to Nigeria immediately upon arrival in the UK.
The phrase “ILU LE” (Yoruba for “the country is tough”) was used to underscore the seriousness of the situation.
