The United Kingdom has proposed providing Nigeria with air defence systems, counter-drone technology and enhanced military intelligence capabilities to strengthen the country’s security operations.
The proposal was disclosed by the British Defence Adviser to Nigeria, Brigadier Tom Harper, during a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at Army Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
The UK also proposed supporting the establishment of a forward operating base, expanding intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities to brigade level, and providing protected mobility vehicles and specialised ammunition.
The partnership will further include expanded military training programmes covering combat drills, casualty care and advanced patrolling.
Future Operation Hadin Kai training cohorts are expected to include troops from Niger, Cameroon and Chad alongside Nigerian personnel, in a move aimed at strengthening regional cooperation against shared security threats.
Shaibu said the partnership would help build a more adaptable and combat-ready Nigerian Army, particularly in tackling asymmetric warfare and security challenges in difficult terrain.
