Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu versus Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu has taken a swipe at the state governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, ahead of the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency bye-election coming up on August 16, 2025.

The election will be conducted to replace the late Hon. Justice Azuka, who was kidnapped on December 24, while returning to his hometown Onitsha for Christmas celebrations.

Hon. Azuka was later found murdered many days after.

Reacting to the efforts of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to replace the murdered lawmaker, Prince Ukachukwu berated the party.

He expressed surprise how the party members are scrambling and falling on each other in effort to take over the seat of the fallen lawmaker “who was a victim of the ruling party’s abysmal security incompetence”.

Addressing journalists who requested his assessment of the situation of things in the state, he faulted APGA for fielding a candidate for the election.

He wondered why APGA should field a candidate to replace a lawmaker murdered as a result of insecurity in the state.

The situation, as observed, was coming at a time when citizens were already yearning noisily aloud for good leadership.

The Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in the meantime, have teamed up to field a sole candidate, the wife of the late lawmaker, on the platform of ADC.

APGA, on the other hand, is fielding Ifeoma Azikiwe against the wife of the late lawmaker.

Ukachukwu asked: “How do they feel about all the people who have died, disappeared without trace, assassinated or kidnapped as a result of insecurity in Anambra State under the APGA regime of Prof Chukwuma Soludo?

“Hon Justice Azuka died as a result of the inability of APGA government to provide security and now is fielding a candidate to replace him.

“They do not care about people’s security as politics is more important to APGA than the lives of anyone.

“If you die as a result of insecurity by their government, they will just move on.

“Security is very paramount, and we will use various methods to safeguard our people when we take over the state,” he added.

He noted that during his “thank -you” tour of the 21 Local Government areas, he was received with great enthusiasm, immense joy, tumultuous shouts and expression of hope of the people, were alarming.

“The people held back tears and they told me that Anambra has, at last, got someone that would solve their problems.

“That this is now the time for Anambra State to rise up to become the true Light of the Nation.

“Being called Light of the nation is neither a mistake nor for a mere show. It’s for a reason!

“This was unlike the government in power that uses intimidation against traditional rulers, town Union/community leaders against people that have benefitted nothing from her.

The APC candidate reviewed his recent tour to the 21 Councils of the state to appreciate them for nominating him as the candidate of APC for the coming governorship election.

Ukachukwu urged citizens to calm down as he shall surely tackle the negative trend when elected.

Digging deep into the word of God he said: “When things are not the way they should, God always remember His people and sends them a messenger.

“I believe that this is the time for Anambra to move from where it is.

“When Anambra is called the ‘Light of the Nation’, it is not because someone wanted to speak English.

“That name came from the fact that Anambra was a shining light for other parts of Nigeria.

“Time was when traders from other parts of Africa were coming in droves to Onitsha to buy goods, but that has stopped because of high insecurity.

“Anambra is now a shadow of itself

“Over time, we had people who came in like invaders to rule our state like conquered people and after that, they disappear with the loot because they have no stake here.

“Those of us who have carried the burden of Anambra State on our shoulders have not been given the opportunity to govern the state.”

Throwing more light on the debilitating negative effects of insecurity on the economic life of the state, the APC Governorship flagbearer highlighted a personal situation/experience when he had 12 very active companies in various parts of Anambra State.

He said that he was the largest investor and employer of labour in the entire state, next to only the State Government.

Sadly, he lamented, the persistent insecurity truncated all that effort.

He noted that they are no longer functioning because the expatriate workers and experts that were supposed to run them were forced to leave after six of them were kidnapped and huge ransom paid.

He disclosed that he never planned to participate in 2025 election process after earlier discussion with the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who had a very wonderful plan for the state.

“The journey started with the party primaries where I polled 1565 out 2640 votes from the delegates to emerge the APC’s governorship flagbearer in the State.
