Nigeria’s Super Falcons endured a difficult opening half in the WAFCON 2025 final against Morocco, conceding two early goals that left them chasing the game from the start.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that despite the team’s collective struggles, certain players stood out for their individual errors, which critically undermined Nigeria’s ability to compete in the first half.

Defender Ashleigh Plumptre committed a costly mistake that led directly to Morocco’s opening goal. Attempting to build from the back, she lost possession in a dangerous area near Nigeria’s box.

The Moroccans seized the opportunity, launching a quick counterattack that ended with Ghizlane Chebbak scoring a composed finish to give Morocco the lead.

At the other end of the pitch, forward Chinwendu Ihezuo failed to influence the game.

As the lone striker, she was expected to hold up play and create chances, but her performance was largely ineffective.

She rarely troubled the Moroccan defense and struggled to provide any attacking outlet for her team.

Michelle Alozie, deployed on the flank, also had a challenging half. She was repeatedly exposed defensively, leaving open spaces that Morocco capitalized on.

Her offensive efforts were equally frustrating, as her deliveries into the box lacked accuracy and urgency.

These subpar individual performances compounded Nigeria’s woes and allowed Morocco to dominate the early proceedings.

The Falcons looked disconnected and uninspired, unable to string meaningful passes or apply pressure where needed.

With the team two goals down heading into the break, the second half posed a significant challenge.

Fans across Nigeria and the continent hoped for a tactical shift and a renewed fighting spirit to salvage the match.

Despite their pedigree in African women’s football, the Super Falcons knew they would need more than experience, they needed composure, focus, and resilience to claw their way back into contention.
