UNICAL fraudulently mobilised 101 graduates for service — NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has accused University of Calabar of fraudulently mobilising 101 graduates for the national service during the 2021, 2022 and 2023 NYSC Service Years.

This was disclosed in a statement by Mr Eddy Megwa, the spokesman of NYSC on Monday.

He said out of these 101 individuals, 99 were mobilized for national service, while the remaining two were exempted.

Eddy said that NYSC has since invalidated the Certificates of National Service issued to all 101 persons, urging the public to verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates directly from the National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.

The statement noted that the scheme stood by its strong commitment to ensuring that unqualified locally and foreign-trained Nigerian youths, especially those purported to have graduated from unaccredited universities were not recognized, while only qualified persons were issued with NYSC certificates.

“This is to inform members of the public that the under-listed Ninety-Nine (99) persons and two (2) others on exemption were fraudulently mobilized by the University of Calabar for National Service during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 NYSC Service Years.”

“The Management of the National Youth Service Corps hereby restates its strong commitment to ensuring that unqualified locally and foreign-trained Nigerian youths, especially those purported to have graduated from unaccredited universities, are not recognized while only qualified persons are issued with NYSC Certificates of National Service”, the statement reads.

Meanwhile, this drastic decision underscores the NYSC’s dedication to upholding the credibility of the national service program and ensuring that only those who genuinely qualify are honored with the prestigious Certificate of National Service.
