UNIZIK probes female student’s assault on lecturer

The Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Anambra State, Professor Joseph Ikechebelu has ordered a probe into the incident at the institution where a student slapped and bit a male lecturer.

Recall that the video of a female student of UNIZIK slapping and dragging a lecturer by his clothes trended on Tuesday.

The lecturer said trouble started after he tapped the student on the shoulder to allow him pass as she was video recording herself dancing on the walkway.

The student took offence and said something that infuriated the lecturer who then demanded that she should delete the video which must have captured him when he passed.

The student resisted this and it became a violent confrontation during which the student allegedly bit the lecturer twice and slapped him before he was saved.

Now the school authorities have waded in and promised action.

The student has been identified as Goddy Mbakwe, a third year student of History and International Relations.

The lecturer has been identified as Dr. Chukwudi Okoye of the Department of Theatre and Arts and Film Studies.

A memo announcing the probe reads,  “In line with our core values of discipline, self-reliance, and excellence and in adherenc to the principles of fair hearing, equity and justice, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joseph I. Ikechebelu, has ordered a full-scale transparent, and unbiased investigation into the matter.”

The memo said the institution has no place for “indiscipline, misconduct, or any form of unacceptable behaviour”.
