The Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has informed that there was an early morning fire incident at the WAEC National Office, Yaba, Lagos.
WAEC disclosed this in a post on its on its Twitter handle @waecnigeria on Wednesday signed by the Head of Public Affairs Department, Moyosola Adesina, on behalf of the Head of National Office.
Later reports, however, indicate that the fire has been put off by a combined team of fire fighters while rescue operations continues.
The brief tweet reads:
“The Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), wishes to inform the general public that there was an early morning fire incident at the WAEC National Office, Yaba, Lagos.
“It was swiftly contained by a combined team of fire fighters.
“Thankfully, no life was lost and all important documents and records are intact. Thank you.”
According to reports, several people were trapped in the building while the fire raged.
News Band gathered that the fire broke out at the middle of the high-rise building as those trapped in the building were seen frantically calling for help.
It was learnt that the fire outbreak was caused by a power surge in one of the offices and spread rapidly. Read more.
