Nigeria’s Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been appointed as the next World Trade Organization (WTO), Director-General.
She has just made history as the first woman and the first African to lead the World Trade Organsition (WTO).
Okonjo-Iweala was pictured outside a Nigerian diplomatic residence in Chambesy, near Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday, September 29, 2020.
Her term starts on the 1st of March 2021.
WTO members took the decision to appoint @NOIweala at a special meeting of the General Council, following a selection process that included eight candidates from around the world.
The General Council held a special meeting today at 15:00 Geneva time where the appointment of Okonjo-Iweala as the next Director-General was considered.
WTO, confirming this on its Twitter handle, posted:
