Nollywood actor, Alex Ekubo, has passed away after a long battle with cancer.
The award-winning movie star died at the age of 40. It is understood that the actor had been privately managing the disease.
The unfortunate development was disclosed on Tuesday evening by talent manager and filmmaker Sam Olatunji, who confirmed the actor’s death.
“Breaking News: Popular Nigeria Actor “ALEX EKUBO”is Dead!!!!!!” he stated on Facebook.
“Prayers up to the EKUBO family,” he said in another post.
Ekubo, known for his charming personality, comic delivery and versatility on screen, had been noticeably absent from the public space for months, stirring concerns among fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.
Born and raised in Nigeria, Ekubo rose to fame through his roles in several blockbuster Nollywood productions, becoming one of the most recognisable faces in the African film industry.
Meanwhile, friends in the movie industry and fans have started sharing tributes to the man known for his bright smile and energy.
Fellow actors described him as a kind person whose absence leaves a huge hole in the African film world.
