UPDATED: Wike signs instrument derecognising Omehia as ex-Rivers Governor [VIDEO
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has signed the instrument for the cancellation of the recognition of Sir Celestine Ngozichim Omehia as former Governor of Rivers State.
On October 25, 2007, the Supreme Court had sacked Sir Omehia.
The Court ruled that Constitutionally he was never a governor and should not enjoy anything in form of benefits and entitlements as a former governor.
Former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who was made governor, appointed then Nyesom Wike as his Chief of Staff. He ordered the removal of Omehia’s portrait from Government House and Wike was the one who personally removed the portrait.

On May 29, 2015, Wike was sworn in as governor of Rivers State and on June 25, 2017, Wike using the instrumentality of the Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA), again personally restored Omehia’s portrait back to government house, ignoring the Supreme Court judgement.
He said Amaechi has no respect. He paid all entitlements to Omehia, bought him a car and built him a house. Then they were on same side.
The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) Rivers screamed blue murder but Wike would not listen.

Years later in 2022, following the fallout of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries which Alhaji Atiku Abubakar won, crisis broke out between Omehia and Wike.
Omehia took sides with Atiku against his benefactor Wike.
Wike threatened to remove his portrait from Government House, but Omehia dared him.
Today, Wike using the same Rivers Assembly, Wike Derecognised Omehia and asked him to refund the N696.5m entitlements and pensions and other sums he collected so far within 7 days.
