US Deploys Additional Marines, Warship to Middle East as War Rages

The United States is sending thousands of Marines and a major amphibious assault ship to the Middle East, as tensions in the region continue to rise amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran and Israel.

US officials confirmed that the deployment includes a large warship and additional naval forces, though details of their exact mission remain unclear.

The move is seen as part of broader efforts by US to strengthen its military presence in the region.

The latest development comes as fighting enters its fourth week, with no clear end in sight. The conflict has already disrupted global energy supplies, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for about 20 percent of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas.

Oil prices have surged sharply since the outbreak of hostilities, rising by about 50 percent, raising fears of a wider economic impact.

President Donald Trump has expressed frustration with US allies, accusing them of failing to support efforts to secure the vital shipping route.

In a strongly worded message, he criticised countries that have been reluctant to intervene while continuing to face rising energy costs.

Meanwhile, military actions have intensified across the region.

Israeli forces say they have launched strikes on targets in Tehran, while Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli cities and U.S. military positions.

There have also been reports of attacks on key energy infrastructure, including a refinery in Kuwait, further compounding concerns over global supply disruptions.

As Muslims mark Eid al-Fitr and Iranians celebrate Nowruz, hopes for a ceasefire remain uncertain, with diplomatic efforts yet to yield a breakthrough.

Analysts warn that even if hostilities end soon, the damage to energy infrastructure and supply chains could take months to repair, prolonging the economic fallout.

The conflict has already resulted in thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions, particularly in Iran and parts of Lebanon, where fighting has also intensified.
