The United States is moving thousands of additional military personnel to the Middle East, according to officials familiar with the development.

The deployment includes the USS Boxer, along with its Marine Expeditionary Unit and supporting naval assets.

Reuters reported that the troops, made up of Marines and Navy personnel, are being sent out earlier than originally planned, departing the U.S. West Coast roughly three weeks ahead of schedule.

However, officials declined to disclose the specific mission or role the forces will play once deployed.

The development comes amid growing speculation that the administration of Donald Trump is weighing options to strengthen its military presence in the Middle East.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Trump downplayed the reports, saying he was not deploying troops “anywhere.”

He added, however, that if such a decision were made, it would not be publicly disclosed in advance.

The White House and the Pentagon have yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest troop movements.

The situation adds to mounting geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, with analysts closely watching how the increased military presence could shape developments in the region in the coming weeks.
