The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 edition of the EducationUSA Nigeria Opportunity Fund Programme (OFP), a scheme aimed at helping outstanding Nigerian students secure admission into American universities.
According to a notice released by the U.S. Embassy and Consulate, applications opened on June 15 and will close on June 30, 2026.
The programme, managed by EducationUSA Nigeria under the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Mission, is designed to support academically gifted students with strong leadership potential who wish to pursue higher education in the United States.
The U.S. Mission said the initiative seeks to expand access to American universities while strengthening educational ties between both countries.
It added that the 2026 cohort aligns with the Freedom250 celebration, marking 250 years of American democracy, innovation and global leadership.
Priority will be given to exceptional students pursuing courses in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other emerging technology fields considered strategically important.
Successful applicants will receive financial assistance to cover key admission-related expenses, including standardised test fees, application fees and other upfront costs often associated with studying in the United States.
To qualify, candidates must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership ability, a clear interest in studying in the U.S., notable achievements, research potential and a commitment to complying with U.S. visa regulations.
The mission stressed that participants would be expected to maintain high ethical standards throughout the programme.
Applicants are required to submit completed application forms, academic transcripts, a personal statement, evidence of achievements and leadership experience, as well as other supporting documents before the June 30 deadline.
The U.S. Mission said the programme remains part of its broader effort to develop globally competitive Nigerian talent while promoting lawful and responsible participation in American higher education institutions.
