US spy plane conducts reconnaissance over Borno to monitor ISWAP

A security expert, Brant Philip, claims the US has begun conducting operations in Nigeria as part of an agreement to tackle escalating terrorism.

According to Philip, a US aircraft carried out reconnaissance in Borno State, taking off from Accra, Ghana, and targeting ISWAP territory near Lake Chad.

He shared on X that the aircraft has been spying over the area for three consecutive days.

Philip had earlier stated that the US Department of War is conducting operations in western Nigeria from Ghana without public permission, possibly under a secret agreement.

He mentioned the US might use the Kainji Air Base in Niger State for UAV airstrikes against terrorist targets, focusing on unmanned aircraft.

The claims follow Nigeria’s rejection of the US designation as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged Christian persecution.

A Nigerian delegation, led by National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, met US officials in November to discuss combating terrorism and stopping violence against Christians.

Neither the Nigerian government nor the US has officially confirmed these operations, and Trump’s earlier threat of military action sparked controversy.
