UYO LGA First Lady Advocates for Awareness on Health Issues

The Wife of the Transition Committee Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Mrs. Bridget Mfon Ben has advocated for effective awareness of HIV/AIDS, Breast and Cervical Cancer.

Mrs. Bridget Ben who made this advocacy during a-one day sensitization for women on harmful diseases organized by the National Council of Women’s Societies, Uyo Senatorial District noted that HIV/AIDS, Breast and Cervical Cancer affect all persons directly or indirectly.

She called for massive investment, advocacy, awareness creation and support from Local and International agencies to fight these diseases and save lives.

Mrs. Ben particularly called on the media to create the needed awareness on the necessity of screening and early detection of these diseases. 

“The media can also help raise public awareness on the importance of screening and early education.

Therefore, we should work hand-in-hand with the media to encourage frequent check-up and assessment because early detection increases the prospects of successful treatment, “she said.

She commended the National Council of Women’s Society for sensitizing women on the prevention and detection of these diseases, adding that such vision aligns with that of Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel.

According to her, “Your focus on sensitizing women to develop the capacity for prevention and early detection of these diseases aligns well with the core values of the FEYReP Initiative of Her Excellency, Deaconess Martha Udom Emmanuel and I commend her for showing commitment and believing that health is human right and a means to development.” 

She called on all with right passion, human resources and capacity stating that we can collectively mitigate or completely eradicate the scourge of HIV/AIDs, Breast and Cervical in Akwa Ibom State.
