The Allianz Arena in Munich has officially been selected as the host venue for the 2028 UEFA Champions League Final, confirming reports from Daily Post and European football insiders.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that this announcement settles one of the most anticipated decisions from UEFA this season, as the race to host future finals intensifies among Europe’s elite football cities.
The choice marks yet another milestone for Bayern Munich’s home ground, which previously staged the 2025 final.
UEFA confirmed that the 2029 Champions League Final remains undecided, with the battle narrowed down to Wembley Stadium in London and Barcelona’s newly renovated Camp Nou.
Both venues are currently undergoing preparations to strengthen their bids, as the governing body seeks iconic, world-class locations for upcoming showpiece matches.
In an official statement released on Friday, UEFA clarified that talks of moving the Champions League Final to New York City, a move that has sparked debate among football fans and administrators, are premature.
The organization stated that the “declarations of interest are not binding,” adding that official bid dossiers must be submitted by June 10 before any final decisions are made.
Football analysts say UEFA’s decision to stick with European venues until at least 2030 reflects both logistical realities and the importance of preserving football’s continental identity.
However, the governing body has not entirely ruled out the possibility of a U.S.-hosted final in the future, given the growing commercial appeal of football across North America.
Historically, the Allianz Arena has been a fortress for Bayern Munich and a favored venue for international football.
It hosted the 2012 Champions League final and most recently in 2025, when fans witnessed a thrilling title decider that underscored the stadium’s world-class facilities.
Meanwhile, Wembley Stadium last hosted the final in 2024, continuing its legacy as one of Europe’s most iconic venues, while Barcelona’s Camp Nou currently under extensive renovation, last staged the event in 1999, when Manchester United produced a historic comeback to defeat Bayern Munich 2–1.
UEFA also confirmed that the 2026/2027 Champions League Final will be played at the Puskás Arena in Budapest, marking the venue’s debut as a host for Europe’s most prestigious club football event.
With preparations for 2028 already underway, football fans around the world are looking forward to another unforgettable night in Munich, as the Allianz Arena prepares once again to host the pinnacle of European club competition.
