(DDM) – Swedish international defender Victor Lindelof has finalised his transfer to Aston Villa, marking a significant summer signing for the Midlands club.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Lindelof, 29, agreed to a contract that runs until June 2027, with an option to extend for an additional year.
Top football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “Victor Lindelöf to Aston Villa, here we go! Medical underway right now approved by Aston Villa.”
The former Manchester United centre-back chose Villa’s offer ahead of Fiorentina and Everton, signalling the club’s growing ambition under manager Unai Emery.
Lindelof, renowned for his calmness under pressure and tactical discipline, brings extensive Premier League experience, having spent several seasons as a key figure at Old Trafford.
He joined Manchester United in 2017 from Benfica, making over 250 appearances across all competitions and helping the club win the EFL Cup in 2023.
At Villa Park, he is expected to bolster a defence that has shown promise but struggled with consistency last season.
Manager Unai Emery has been proactive in the transfer market, aiming to strengthen every department of his squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Villa’s recruitment strategy this summer reflects their desire to compete for a top-six finish and secure European football.
Lindelof’s leadership qualities and composure on the ball are likely to complement Villa’s defensive structure, which already includes talented options like Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa.
Medical formalities are ongoing, but sources indicate the unveiling of Lindelof as an Aston Villa player could be completed within 48 hours.
The move is seen as a fresh chapter for the Swede, who faced increased competition for starting opportunities at United following the arrivals of Lisandro Martínez and Raphaël Varane.
For Villa supporters, the signing reinforces the club’s determination to challenge the established Premier League hierarchy.
With pre-season preparations underway, Lindelof is expected to join his new teammates immediately after completing his medical, ahead of Villa’s upcoming fixtures.
This acquisition continues a busy transfer window for the club, with further reinforcements likely before the campaign kicks off.
