In a heartwarming display of integrity and compassion, a commercial tricycle operator in Aba, Abia State, has become the subject of public admiration after returning a substantial sum of ₦4 million mistakenly left behind by a passenger.

The tricycle driver, Lucky Okoro, popularly known as “Onye Photo”, hails from Umuomei in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

He recounted that the incident took place on the morning of Thursday, June 26, 2025, during his usual commercial rounds.

According to Okoro, the female passenger a Cameroonian businesswoman had boarded his tricycle at Aba Main Park, heading to the bustling Ariaria International Market.

Unbeknownst to her, she left behind a bag containing the equivalent of four million naira in cash.

“I only noticed the bag after she had alighted. When I opened it and saw what was inside, I was shocked,” Lucky told reporters. “But I knew immediately what I had to do.”

Determined to find the rightful owner, the tricycle operator returned to the park in hopes of locating the woman.

When his efforts proved fruitless, he extended his search to Ariaria Market.

There, he found the distraught woman in tears, reportedly on the brink of suicide, having realized she had misplaced the large sum meant for a critical business transaction.

“She was crying uncontrollably,” Okoro said. “She told me she had lost everything and was ready to end it all. I gave her the money and told her life is more important. She was shocked and grateful.”

In a touching gesture, Okoro reportedly advised the woman to lodge in a hotel for the night to calm down and recover emotionally before continuing her journey.

The grateful woman, deeply moved by his kindness, paid for the hotel accommodation and expressed profound thanks.

Despite the widespread praise he’s received, not all responses have been positive.

Okoro revealed that several of his colleagues mocked his decision to return the money, branding him a “mugu”—a derogatory slang used to describe someone perceived as naïve or foolish.

“Some people called me names. They said I should have kept the money, especially because I need a new keke,” he said.

“But I don’t regret it. My conscience is clear. I wasn’t raised to take what doesn’t belong to me.”

Public Praise and Growing Support

Since the story went public, Okoro has been celebrated on social media, with thousands praising his rare display of honesty in a country where tales of corruption and mistrust are all too common.

Many have called for him to be publicly recognized by local authorities, NGOs, or even the state government.

Some well-meaning Nigerians have also begun pushing for a crowdfunding initiative to help Lucky purchase a brand-new tricycle as a reward for his character.

“This is the kind of story that restores our faith in humanity,” said one Twitter user. “Give this man a new keke and a national honor!”

As of press time, no official recognition has been announced, but the story continues to gain traction online.
